Some models can be difficult to remove or attach from the base. The Doona Combo, for example requires a two-step attach procedure and straps that are placed over the infant's bottom portion. It may be tempting to skip these steps, but this could lead to unsafe outcomes.
In the same way some models are hard to fold and put away making them less convenient than others. The Graco FastAction 3-in-1 Car Seat Stroller, for example, is difficult to fold due to its massive dimensions and heavy frame. Some reviewers are also disappointed by the canopy of this model to be unsatisfactory. However, the Britax Parkway Click and Go Combo is easy to fold using a pull of the lever and a click of an button. It is also a great option for parents who plan on using their car seat on vehicles of other people, since it can be removed from the base and attached to any stroller that is standard.
Easy to Fold
It should be easy to fold and unfold the car seat, regardless of whether you're storing it in your trunk or the closet. The best combos we've tested feature an easy one-handed fold that is compact and durable enough to be used for long walks. They're also simple to move, sliding smoothly over uneven surfaces and bumps. We've seen some combos that can only be attached or removed using straps, which can be a hassle and make it harder for parents to ensure that the car seat is secured properly.
The BOB Revolution Flex Combo is a fantastic choice due to its robust construction and practical features, such as a large storage bin that is accessible from the back or front. SafeCenter LATCH, a unique feature of the BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 Combo, makes it easy to install a car seat by connecting the lower anchors and securing the straps.
It's also fairly light which makes it a great option for frequent travellers or families with multiple vehicles. The Baby Jogger City Mini GT 2 Combo and the Thule Urban Glide 2 have also scored highly in our tests of ease-of-use. Both come with one wheel that's easy to push with one hand. Both have a single front wheel which is easy to push (one-handed!). They also have a movable swing wheel, which is ideal for shopping or running errands. The only downside is that they're heavy and are difficult to lift when carrying a child in a car seat.
Easy to Assemble
Certain car seat and stroller combinations can be difficult to assemble. The UPPAbaby Cruz v2 Combo is one of the easiest travel systems to assemble. It includes a helpful guide. Other models, including the UPPAbaby Minu and UPPAbaby Vista v2, Thule urban Glide 2 and Baby Trend Snap-N-Go EX Universal were also relatively easy to assemble. The BOB Revolution Flex 3.0 Combo however, is difficult to assemble. It requires two steps connecting the lower anchors, and using straps to cover the bottom of the carrier. It's also heavy, and it takes two hands to secure the carrier into the base, then detach it from there.
In our tests, it took us about 5 minutes to put the UPPAbaby v2 together, which is relatively rapid when you consider the time is saved by not having to take out all of the individual pieces. 2in1 pram can be slid into and detached easily on most of these models.
